Recently, major US-based mobile carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, & US Cellular) have implemented significant changes to the requirements that allow a non-cellular-local-number to send texts (SMS traffic) to their networks. The telecom industry term for “local number texting” is called “10DLC” (industry acronym for 10-digit long codes, meaning any USA or Canada local numbers.)
All service providers who provide texting services are now required to have all text-enabled numbers registered with “The Campaign Registry” to remain compliant with the newest US mobile carrier 10DLC policies. In addition to the registration, there is also an additional monthly cost to have the numbers registered. One of the largest SMS carriers, T-Mobile, has announced that they will be charging a $50.00 one-time activation fee for all new SMS Campaign activations after March 1, 2022.
Yes, traffic must be registered no later than February 25, 2022. Unregistered traffic will be blocked after March 1, 2022, and additional fees apply to register after March 1, 2022.
Yes, all businesses or organizations require registration, including nonprofits and government entities.
All customers who have a text-enabled local number must register, regardless of usage.
Carriers want transparency and accountability to “who” is sending, and “what” they are sending. Unregistered traffic is now considered non-compliant. Common terminology used is “unsanctioned” and “sanctioned” traffic which means the same thing as “unregistered” and “registered” traffic.
Toll-Free SMS does not require registration at this time.
As of April 1, 2022, local number texting costs will increase from $5/month to $8/month.
Registrations must be completed by February 25, 2022. If we do not receive your registration information, texting services will be canceled on March 1, 2022. If you choose to register after March 1, 2022, a one-time $50.00 registration fee will be applied from T-Mobile.
