1. Why should I park my number?
Parking your number with UniTel Voice allows you to keep your phone number. You can activate your number when you need it or port it to any another phone service provider at any time. You can even upload a custom voicemail greeting to play for anyone who calls your number. If a caller leaves a message that on your voicemail it will be emailed to you.
2. Why would someone want to use a number parking service?
There are many reasons you might want to save your phone number:
Moving – Are you moving and want to let callers know you have a new number? Whether you’re moving across town or across the world, we can park your number for you on the cheap for as long as you need.
Traveling Abroad – Would you like keep in touch with friends and family while you are exploring new countries but not have to pay your phone bill? Park your number so people can still call it but you don’t have to keep your current costly phone service. When you’re back you can set up new service with any phone company you’d like.
No Longer Need Phone Service – Would you like to get rid of the expensive bill but not the number? Get rid of unnecessary bills, save money monthly, and keep your telephone number.
3. What if I decide to cancel?
If you no longer wish to use park your number with UniTel Voice, you can cancel at any time.
4. What does “port my number” mean?
“Porting” simply means transferring your existing landline or cell phone number from one phone service provider to another.
5. What numbers can be ported to UniTel Voice?
UniTel Voice offers cell phone parking where you can park mobile numbers, landline number parking, toll free number parking and parking for any local number in the United States and Canada. Sorry, we don’t support any other countries (yet!).
6. When can I cancel my old service?
You can cancel your old phone service once we notify you via email that your number has safely transferred to UniTel Voice. Transferring a toll free number usually takes 1-3 business days while local numbers can take up to 10.
7. How long does it take to port my number to UniTel Voice?
Transferring (porting) a toll free number to UniTel Voice usually takes 1-2 business days. Transfering local numbers can take anywhere from 2-10 business days.
8. How does the transfer process work?
We’ll provide you with an LOA (letter of authorization) that you fill out, sign, and send back to us with a copy of your number’s current phone bill and we will contact your current provider and request to have your number transferred (ported) to UniTel Voice. The LOA gives us the authority to contact your provider on your behalf and your phone bill serves as proof you own the number.
9. Can I change my plan to use call forwarding?
You are able to upgrade your plan at any time to one of our call forwarding plans.
10. Does UniTel Voice charge porting fees?
There are no porting fees with UniTel Voice. There are no fees to port your number to UniTel Voice or away from UniTel Voice.
11. Can I port out a number to any phone?
Cell phones and VoIP service providers can be used with any number. However, landlines must be associated with an area code for the region it is in. So while you can use a Chicago 312 area code for a cell phone or VOIP carrier in New York (as an example), you would need a local New York area code such as 212 for a landline.
12. Who owns my telephone number?
You do! By transferring your phone number from your current provider to UniTel Voice, you can maintain ownership of your number for life. Once your number is parked with UniTel Voice, you can store it for as long as you’d like, activate it at any time, or port it to another provider of your choice.
13. Can I store more than one number with UniTel Voice?
Absolutely! You can port as many phone numbers as you want and manage them all within a single UniTel Voice account.
14. How do I start using my phone number again?
You can activate your phone number with UniTel Voice by upgrading to one of our virtual phone system plans, or you can transfer your phone number to another service provider of your choice at any time.
